International PhD Programme Berlin Germany

International Max Planck Research School for Infectious Diseases and Immunology (IMPRS-IDI) DFG Graduiertenkolleg (GRAKO): Genetic and Immunologic Determinants of Pathogen- Host-Interactions.

PhD Program Infectious Diseases and Immunology - Berlin (IDI-Berlin)
The application period starts October 1, 2008. The application period ends on January 15, 2009 midnight Central European Time.

The International Max Planck Research School for Infectious Diseases and Immunology (IMPRS-IDI) and the DFG funded Graduiertenkolleg Pathogen-Host-Interactions (GRAKO) provide a multidisciplinary approach to study the interaction of pathogens with their hosts. The research school is a collaboration between the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology and two Universities (Humboldt University Berlin, Free University Berlin), the University Hospital Charité and other reserach institutes which offer outstanding scientific training awarding PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) degrees. The research school works closely with the Centre of Infection Biology and Immunity (ZIBI, “Zentrum für Infektionsbiologie und Immunität”) which was recently founded by the Humboldt University.

The research school encourages independent research by students in different fields including viruses, bacteria, protozoa and parasites. Different approaches such as molecular, cellular, and organismal biology as well as genetics, immunology and biochemistry are used to study the biodiversity of infection. The strength of the program is the diversity of the labs involved and the wide array of state-of-the-art techniques provided.
